June 05, 2012: Space rocks!!!

Today was indeed a most epic day.  Not because of something I did or anything like that.  It is a notable day because today was the day of the Venus Transit; when Venus passes in front of the sun. It's pretty remarkable.  Actually what I think is the most remarkable part is that it only happens every one hundred years or so.  I wish I had better technology to see it with my own eyes but I had to settle for seeing it happen through photos and videos.

Here is one video I found where it is approaching the sun.  It's pretty awesome.  I can't wait for all the videos to start surfacing once it is finally done!
I think  my favorite part of that video is also getting to see the solar flares burst off of the side of the sun.  It's so freaking cool.  I could seriously just watch videos of sun flares all day.  Well.  Maybe not all day, but frequently.

The next video I want you to see is of Venus starting to pass over the sun.
You can see the surface of the sun!! Look at it! How can anyone not think this is awesome?  How ridiculously huge is the sun compared to Venus?! Venus is that little dot just scooting in front of it.  I can't even handle how cool space is sometimes.

Alright last video I'm going to post because you can just go and get lost in videos of the Transit.  This one shows Venus making it farther across the sun.
This one gives me serious goose bumps.  I love how the filter they are using makes the sun look.  It's ridiculous, in the best way possible.  No one will see this in person for at least 100 years.  Isn't that just ridiculous(I can't seem to think of other words besides ridiculous)?! Here I was thinking I would just show you some pictures of some food I ate today until I remembered it was the Transit!

I am a bit sad that I didn't get to go out and try to see it myself but like I said I kind of lack the technology and I think I was asleep when it was first starting.  Once I realized it was happening the sun had moved behind the trees in my neighborhood and all hope was lost.  I still live vicariously through videos of it. I can't be mad about it because it was still happening while I'm alive on this planet and that's just as cool.

If you really want to see pictures of what I ate today you can always ask. I'll share them if you want. :P

Also if you want more information you can see these links below.  Not info about  my food, but about the Venus Transit. Silly.
@BadAstronomer's blog -He knows more about space than me and I'm sure will have a pretty awesome blog post about it.
It's a webpage dedicated entirely to the transit of Venus

Seriously 2012.  You are a great year for space.  Lunar Eclipse, Dragon, and Venus Transit.  Totally awesome.

Goodnight!
